PMC Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary group led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, fights for Russia in Ukraine. It receives military equipment from and utilizes training installations of the Russian Ministry of Defense (“MoD”), and is considered a de facto unit of the MoD or Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU.
PMC Wagner Group led the recent and ongoing battles in Bakhmut, Ukraine, but has now reportedly fallen out of favor with the Kremlin due to heavy losses and poor execution of battle. Russian regular forces are now being sent to replace PMC Wagner fighters in the area. This is not setting well with Yevgeny Prigozhin. A power struggle between Prigozhin and President Vladimir Putin seems to be occurring.
This morning, FOX News is reporting about the PMC Wagner Group situation. The FOX News story may be read HERE.
As a reminder, the official Ukrainian website bringing war coverage from a non-US or western viewpoint may be viewed HERE.
My brothers and sisters, Ukrainian forces continue to bravely fight for their very existence, individually and as a country. As so often happens in the midst of evil, the enemy is beginning to fight amongst itself, with the PMC Wagner Group and Russian forces at odds over “who gets the glory.” How disgusting!
As Christians, we should continue to pray for the people of Ukraine, for God’s favor in their lives, and for this unjust and evil battle brought on by Russia to come to a swift end. Too many lives have been lost on all sides!
Sadly, it’s becoming clear that many Americans, including many in US political leadership, are becoming singularly focused on the US money sent to Ukraine. Although it is essential that US citizen’s tax dollars are properly spent, maintaining an informed and broad perspective is critical. We don’t live in a vacuum, personally or as a country.
It would be unwise to allow a distaste for the current US administration and the resulting political climate to be used as justification for a seemingly knee-jerk reaction against helping our Ukrainian brothers and sisters.
Pray! Pray and ask the Lord to bring a clear understanding of what is happening spiritually.
Our decisions regarding support of the Ukrainian war effort have a direct relationship to the stability of Europe (for which many American lives have been sacrificed in battle during world wars), the survival of nearby democratic governments and liberty, and the danger of allowing Putin to claim victory in this unjust war. What would a Russian victory set into motion? This must not be allowed to happen.
Sticking our collective heads in the sand and/or isolating the US will not cause this situation to disappear or end well. Prayer and wise governmental decision making are needed!
Some scriptures for consideration:
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NKJV)
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…”.
2 Chronicles 20:21-23 (NLT)
“After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising [H]im for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: ‘Give thanks to the Lord; [H]is faithful love endures forever!’ At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed the army of Seir, they began attacking each other.”
Psalm 24:8 (NKJV)
“Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, [t]he Lord mighty in battle.”
Praise Jesus forevermore!
