The mifepristone story took several giant steps in the past week, with a federal judge in Texas calling for its sale to be halted and another judge in Washington state calling for it to remain available, followed by an appeals court ruling allowing the deadly abortion drug to remain on the market, with restrictions, while the lower court cases proceed. Then, the Supreme Court weighed in to halt the restrictions at least for a few days. ProLife Prime Time News co-anchors Theresa Watson and Leslie Palma talk to Lathan Watts, vice president of public affairs for Alliance Defending Freedom, which represented the Texas plaintiffs.
Also on the show this week:
- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the Heartbeat Protection Act into law hours after the Florida House passed the bill with a 70-40 vote. The law, when enacted, will protect babies from abortion once a heartbeat can be detected, and provide $25 million in funding to pregnancy resource centers.
- Nebraska legislators began discussing a Heartbeat bill, while the Iowa Supreme Court heard arguments in a case filed by abortion sellers who hope to strike down that state’s Heartbeat law. The law was signed in 2016 but has been blocked since then.
- According to research from the pro-abortion Society for Family Planning, there were 32,000 fewer abortions in the six months after Roe v. Wade was overturned than in the months before the Supreme Court decision was announced last June.
- The 2024 Democratic National Convention will take place in Chicago, it was announced this week. It seems fitting that the party that not long ago backed defunding the police would be held in a city beset with crime and lawlessness.
- South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott announced he has launched a committee to explore a possible presidential run in 2024.
- Former Planned Parenthood director turned passionate pro-lifer Abby Johnson and film producer Drew Martin join Leslie to talk about their new documentary, Unthinkable.
