The C.E.O. of the company that created the AI program ChatGPT told a Senate subcommittee this week that the U.S. or a global agency should regulate Artificial Intelligence, which is advancing in power at lightning speed. Sam Altman said people are anxious about how AI will change their lives, and added, “We are, too.”
What started out as a panic among educators about ChatGPT’s use to cheat on homework assignments has expanded to broader concerns about the ability of the latest crop of “generative AI” tools to mislead people, spread falsehoods, violate copyright protections and upend some jobs.
