Mike Leake of Church Leaders has shared a challenging article about the difference between those who are truly prophetic and those who may be operating as narcissists.
A narcissist may be very skilled at faking empathy, and can seem to be great listeners and incredibly caring, but what happens if you establish a boundary? Do they respect your story? Are they letting you tell your story on your terms? Is your story being swallowed up by their own? There are many ways to detect a potential narcissist instead of a prophet.
The Church Leaders article may be read HERE.
My brothers and sisters, please read this article carefully, as it is far too easy to make judgments about others without having (or understanding) all of the necessary information, especially when determinations are made based upon a single or widely-spaced “incidents.” That said, the article provokes thought and help in our process of discernment in the kingdom of God.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “narcissist” as “an extremely self-centered person who has an exaggerated sense of self-importance.”
Perhaps this could be summarized by asking, is what the person is saying and/or doing pointing toward God, or back toward that person?
Matthew 7:15 (NKJV)
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”
Praise Jesus forevermore!
