On April 25, 2023, Edgewood, NM Commissioners voted to pass an ordinance that would require abortion providers to abide by a federal statute that prohibits the selling of abortion paraphernalia across state lines. This would in essence be an abortion de facto ban because abortion would not be permitted under this federal ruling.
Now some pro-abortion groups are attempting to gather petitions to overturn this ordinance. They will need to gather 240 signatures to do this. If they are successful then the ordinance cannot go into effect. There is still a remedy, because if this was to happen, then it would then be put to the people to vote for or against abortion.
This is a tremendous opportunity for the Church to rise and get the information out to their congregations. They can inform them about this ballot initiative and inspire them to get out to vote for life.
When I attended both hearings the room was overwhelmingly for the ordinance, but you can never take anything for granted. It will take work and people will need to get ready to go vote for life.
People may get upset and want to give up because they may have to take another step because the liberal left shows up. I ask, Did you really think they were going to go away? No, they are going to fight. We should take note and do likewise. This is a battle we are engaged in, and it’s a battle worth fighting for so Edgewood, go get what is yours, and don’t back down.
