UPDATED: It’s here! The National Day of Prayer is today (May 4, 2023).
As a reminder, a joint resolution of the United States Congress established a National Day of Prayer in 1952. On May 5, 1988, President Ronald Reagan approved a congressional revision of the 1952 Joint Resolution of Congress, establishing that the National Day of Prayer would be observed on “the first Thursday in May in each year.”
My brothers and sisters, there is so much to be thankful for, yet so much in dire need of our faith-filled prayers! Remember that the Lord is always faithful and true (Ref. Revelation 19:11), and He desires for all to come unto salvation – with the promise of eternal life. All things are possible with God (Ref. Matthew 19:26)! Scripture declares that we can – and should – come before Him with prayers of supplication and petition for ourselves and especially for others (Ref. 1 Timothy 2:1-4).
The National Day of Prayer is a great opportunity to come into unity with others and pray on behalf of our nation, its government, military, schools, and for all those who are hurting, sick, homeless, incarcerated and/or don’t yet know the love of Christ.
Let’s come together today to repent and seek God’s healing and blessing over our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). Even if you aren’t able to make it to an official function, what a great day to spend extra time in prayer. The Answer to the world’s problems is, and will always be, JESUS!
There are several events happening today in Albuquerque.
The City of Albuquerque is holding a National Day of Prayer event downtown at the Albuquerque Civic Plaza from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
There will also be a National Day of Prayer event at the New Mexico Capitol, 490 Old Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe, starting at 12:00 PM.
Scripture to consider:
Revelation 19:11 (NKJV)
“Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.”
Matthew 19:26 (NKJV)
“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘[w]ith men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'”
1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NKJV)
“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV)
“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Praise Jesus forevermore!
