He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 46:10
In the hustle and bustle of today’s busy world, it’s nice to take time off and enjoy the goodness that God has given you. Also, along with that busyness that we feel, it also can make us feel guilty for wanting or needing a break.
I believe that God wants us to stop from time to time and get refreshed. Many times we are busy encouraging others, looking out for others, serving others, working hard, raising our children, and we forget to self-care.
I’ve had many people tell me that they feel guilty for needing or wanting a break, but it’s imperative that when you get to the point where life is just too busy and you’re overwhelmed, that you do take time out to enjoy God’s bountiful blessings and also to refresh your mind.
Our human strength cannot match God’s strength, so we must give control over to him and let him have it completely, as only he can refresh us as we need to be refreshed.
There are times we try to fight the battle alone, in our own strength and all this does is make us weary and burned out. The battles I’m talking about right now are more of an emotional trial.
We all face times when we try to do too much and eventually it will catch up with us and that’s when real trouble can begin.
Other battles we face can be personal issues; whether it’s finances, marriage problems, your workplace, friendships gone bad and the list can go on and on.
We were never meant to carry such heavy burdens on our own. Rather, we are to give it to the Lord a cast all our burdens on him.
Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7
God loves us fiercely and is extremely attentive to us. He waits to answer when we pray, to forgive us when we repent, to comfort when we are hurting and to give us rest and peace when needed.
He will surely carry our sorrows if only we ask. And one thing I have done, which was not right, was to cast my anxieties on him only to take it back from him and try to do it on my own volition, because of impatience.
Don’t take back your anxieties once you have entrusted them to God, leave them there.
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Jesus
Matthew 11:28
Being still and Giving your burden to God, may look differently to everybody. But whatever it looks like for you, whatever God is leading you to do, if you feel overwhelmed or stressed out, it’s time to just go rest in the Lord.
Remember, although we are servants of the Lord, we cannot give, what we do not have. In other words, you can’t encourage somebody and try to help them live their best life now, if yours is falling apart.
It may not take long. God may refresh you quickly or he may do it in a season.
Even God rested and it wasn’t because he was tired from creating the earth, but I believe He was creating rest and renewal as an example for us to follow. He knew it would be crucial to our wellbeing.
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Genesis 2:2-3
Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
