REUTERS reports that Japan has won approval from the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency (“IAEA”) on Tuesday for its plan to release treated radioactive water from the tsunami-wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean – despite fierce resistance from Beijing and some local residents.
After a two-year review, the IAEA said Japan’s plans were consistent with global safety standards and would have a “negligible radiological impact to people and the environment.”

The reactor explosions from 2011 were horrifying to watch, as there was simply no way to stop the chain reactions – despite all of the (then) built-in safety procedures to prevent such a release of radioactivity to the environment.
Much concern has been expressed by China and local citizens about this plan, but the treated cooling water generated following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami needs to be disposed in a reasonable manner. All we really can do is pray that the scientists are correct and that human health and ocean-living fish and animals will be safe, with minimal disruption to the livelihoods of those who earn their livings from the ocean (e.g., fishermen).
Praise Jesus forevermore!
