Sprinkle a Little Salt
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
Matthew 5:13 NKJV
Why do Christian’s matter?
Better question is how much worse would this world look like if there were no Followers of Christ?
What would our world look like if there was never a Savior or if there weren’t any Christians ever?
And why does it matter?
We are called to be the salt.
Salt was used as a preservative because bacteria can’t grow in that environment.
Salt stopped decay.
During the Sermon on the Mount Jesus tells those listening “you are the salt of the Earth”.
One reason that humanity has survived is because of this very reason, the ability to preserve what is rotting.
The process of purifying what is causing the rotting.
What does that even mean! Not very long ago there wasn’t technology to really preserve food. No refrigerator, no freezers. No artificial preservatives had been invented. If a cow or a lamb was butchered, either you had a huge BBQ or it would spoil. But there was one way that our ancestors knew.
This practice would keep their food from becoming rotten, unusable.
They would use salt as a preservative. You see they would take the salt and rub the meat down until it was fully covered.
Then they would wrap it up and allow the salt to CURE the meat.
Why SALT!
Those that listen and follow Jesus’ words and teachings are meant to be the Salt!
We are called to be the salt!
His Word for those that Trust and follow!
Throughout the whole History of the world, from the very beginning to right to this very second, true Christians have been the Salt of the world. They have preserved Almighty God’s word from generation to generation. Never spoiled and always ready to be taken to a body, spirit and soul that needs to be purged of the bacteria of sins and be preserved for the Kingdom of God to do the Fathers work!
Think for a moment what would this world be like if there was never any Christian influence.
Imagine if the Word of God ended at the Cross!
When Jesus gave the command to all the world and proclaimed the Kingdom of Heaven.
Not just share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but to make Disciples of Jesus Christ!
What if those men and women didn’t go out and do as the Lord commanded.
How would society be if it all ended right there and then?
Yes, there is still evil in this world and there always will be until Christ returns.
But what if we never had that hope of being washed and cleansed. Having freedom from decay. Cured with the Word of God!
What if there was never Salt to preserve the word of God?
None, nothing at all.
We have always lived our lives in a Christian manner, with Christian principles. Even those that don’t know or accept the purifying Blood of Jesus Christ benefits from it!
How He has instructed us to live has been so embedded in our society that we don’t even realize the impact He has made on us! From the government, schools, hospitals, orphanages, banking, everything!
Even people that don’t know who Jesus is are following what has been taught, preserved and passed down.
Have you ever heard of the 1st Atheist Hospital? No, of course not!
But you have heard of Hospitals with names like Presbyterian, St Josephs, Mercy Hospital. Why because of the people that were the Salt of the earth. They are the ones that have preserved the teaching and truths that Chirst has told us to follow by caring for the sick and needy.
We are the salt!
We still have to care for the sick and needy. The Spiritually sick, and the needy and hopeless heart!
The Salt of the Gospels is used to slow down the decay of our culture. We are what’s holding back every form of wicked bacteria from spreading.
Us!
But stand their with the salt shaker in our hands and do nothing with it.
We are the Salt that should be being sprinkling on the hearts to point them to the One that will purify the most putrid, rancid rotting heart.
This Salt will cleanse every soul and it NEVER loses its flavor!
Throughout history many people have done many awful things in the name of Jesus!
Why?
These lost their flavor.
They made a substitute for the real thing.
Man made preservatives, more harmful than good!
Salt substitutes. No cleansing, no purifying. Just an imposter to the real thing.
God’s Word and the Shed Blood of His Son Jesus is what we all have to rely on to purify our hearts, minds and souls. This is Real and True. It’s everlasting ot will always cure.
It will always cleanse. It will always purify. It will always cure.
It never ,ever loses it flavor!
When we use anything else other than these, all we bring is a Salt substitute.
It may seem like the right thing.
These substitutes may seem to work for a bit. But over time they lose their flavor.
In the end it’s unhealthy and whatever it touches eventually spoils.
There is no substitute!
God has always preserved people to continue His work.
These are remnants of people whom God has salted to be preserved to do His work and spread His word!
The Lord says,
You are the salt of the earth!
You.
You are the one that carries what the rotting soul needs, the Word of God!
Sprinkle it on every heart that is corroded.
Spread the Salt over heart that needs to be refined by the hearing of the Good News!
Then watch and see how powerful the Salt is to disinfect the most sinful, bacteria infested soul!
Do the work of the Kingdom today.
Give people what they need, the real thing and not a substitute.
Even a small sprinkle of God’s Word today will do.
Be the Salt!
