The Hill reports that the United States (“US”) is suspending all federal funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (“WIV”), the Chinese laboratory at the center of the controversy over the origins of COVID-19.
According to a memorandum made public by the US Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”), the WIV has repeatedly refused to provide documents or answer questions from the US National Institutes of Health (“NIH”) about safety and security. The HHS also told the WIV that it’s seeking to cut off funding permanently.

In January of this year, The Intercept reported that the HHS’ Office of the Inspector General took to task both the NIH and EcoHealth Alliance (“ECO”). ECO, a New York-based nonprofit, received nearly $8 million in grants from the NIH between May 2014 and July 2021 – some of which were used to fund coronavirus research at the WIV.
Among other findings, the HHS’ report concluded that ECO failed to immediately notify the NIH about the unexpected results of certain US-funded research and has not been responsive to requests to provide notebook entries and electronic files – which could offer insight into US-funded experiments at the WIV.

Although this positive development has been a long time coming, at least officially, it represents the longstanding inability of the US federal government to accomplish anything openly and in a timely manner – leading to continuing distrust by many.
It does not go without notice that, even today, the US government’s most prominent agencies or departments (e.g., FBI, CDC, HHS, CIA, DoD, etc.) do not agree, or choose not to present, an official and consistent determination of the US government regarding the generation of COVID-19 and its subsequent release to the world, resulting in a two to three year worldwide pandemic.
We should continue to pray for US leadership to be honest, direct, and far less politically motivated in how matters of life-and-death are handled. Coy and dishonest leadership leads to distrust and even destruction! As President Abraham Lincoln said in conclusion of the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863:
