CBS News recently reported that drivers were once again feeling the pinch when fueling their vehicles, with the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the United States jumping to $3.82 a gallon – up nearly 30 cents from a month ago. The steepest increases have been in Midwestern states, with the nation’s most expensive gasoline found in the states of California and Washington, where prices are averaging about $5.00 per gallon.
The increasing cost of gasoline during August – a month in which prices typically start going down – is attributed, in part, to three issues: 1) increased temperatures nationwide causing refineries to limit output; 2) a recent $10 increase per barrel of crude oil; and 3) a cut in crude oil production by Saudi Arabia.

According to the American Automobile Association (“AAA”), gasoline today (8/14/2023) averages $3.739 per gallon in New Mexico, with the national average at $3.851. Some stations are approaching or even above the $4.00 mark. Every dime of increase represents real consequences for those who travel daily to work, to take children to school and appointments, and to all of us who need to shop, etc.

Let’s continue as we pray to seek God’s intervention and wise governmental leadership to bring costs down, making things easier to manage. The thought of families having to choose between needed fuel for work and school clothes or supplies, meals, needed medications or rent payments is heartbreaking. Many need to travel to simply make a living.
Praise Jesus forevermore!
