Glenwood, NM Fire Department May Disband, America is Suffering From a Shortage of Volunteer Firefighters!

The picture above is from a fire back in the 60’s in Windom, Minnesota where my Dad Wally Moede, served as Assistant Fire Chief. My grandpa Chris Moede, was also firefighter in Windom from the very late 1800’s to the mid 1920’s. I served as a volunteer firefighter in Osceola, Indiana.

A lack of volunteers is putting Catron County’s Glenwood Fire and Rescue Department in danger of shutting down.

The combined fire and emergency medical service department has seven volunteers — five licensed emergency medical technicians and two drivers, according to Glenwood EMS Chief Sharon Beaty. More Here

I also know that Glenwood keeps one fire truck in Mogollon. “…Today, Mogollon is home to a very few seasonal residents and a couple of business…”

The entire area of Catron county is such a beautiful area to visit! I have been a circuit preacher in the county for 12 years. My next assignment is on October 8th at FBC in Glenwood.

Two-thirds of U.S. firefighters are volunteers, who can face anything from a house fire with people trapped inside, to a pile-up on the highway or a leak of hazardous chemicals.
