Dale Hurd with the Christian Broadcasting Network (“CBN”) reports today about the worldwide belief by many, and especially governments, that increasing weather and fire-related events are caused by or exacerbated due to the planet’s warming temperatures – referred to as climate change.
News stations are reporting about a summer of “extreme heat” and citing that 2023 is on track to be the hottest year on record. According to a PBS/Marist Poll, roughly two-thirds of Americans say that climate change is affecting the weather, with some believing we’ve already hit “the point of no return.”
With politicians and government officials, such as US President Joe Biden, speaking about declaring a climate emergency and the UN Secretary General referring to the current state of climate change as “global boiling,” it’s important to take a less biased look at recent climate history, as the past tends to tell a differing story!

As the above report discusses, weather history, including many of the worst weather events and hottest years on record, have all been in the past. Even in the rush to blame the recent Maui fires on global warming, it has been learned that that human error, ideology, electrical power grid hazards and even a passing storm event caused and/or contributed directly to the severity of the fires.
It bears remembering that the dinosaurs reportedly went extinct due to an ice age and that changes to the earth’s climate did not simply begin when man started operating fossil fuel-powered engines. In fact, the southwest United States was mired in a decade-long dust bowl in the 1930s, as the University of Nebraska addresses HERE.
My brothers and sisters, climate change is absolutely real; however, claiming that humans in recent decades are solely to blame for the end of the earth as we know it due to carbon emissions and fossil fuel usage is not what many would refer to as “settled science.”
As a former USAF environmental investigator and New Mexico Environment Department environmental specialist and enforcement manager, this writer does not reject the need for sound and focused environmental regulation. In fact, I have no sympathy for those wanting to poison our drinking water, fill our lungs with friable asbestos or pollute our air so that acid rain, cancer and “Love Canal” fires occur.
More importantly, however, I realize that God gave mankind the earth to care for and that it is absolutely biblical to be good stewards of all that the Father has provided! It is also true that God gave us sound minds and His wisdom, if we will only ask Him and walk in it. The wisdom of the world will never prevail, as such is foolishness to God.
Genesis 1:27-28 (NKJV)
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘[b]e fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'”
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
James 1:5 (NKJV)
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
1 Corinthians 3:19 (NKJV)
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness…'”.
Praise Jesus forevermore!
