ABC News is reporting that Republicans voted 113-99 to nominate current House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) for Speaker of the House (“Speaker”), defeating his opponent, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH).
The vote was conducted today by secret ballot, with 99 votes for Chairman Jordan, eight votes for others, and three members voting “present.” It appears unlikely there will be a vote in the full chamber today, as House Majority Leader Scalise is reportedly working to firm up the minimum 217 votes he will need to become Speaker.

My brothers and sisters, without belaboring the point, it’s hard to overstate the importance for the United States (“US”) to have a fully-functioning Congress during this time of internal political instability and an ongoing war in Israel. Nor should it be forgotten that the Speaker of the House is second in line for the presidency under the US Constitution, following Vice President Kamala D. Harris.
Hopefully tomorrow, or very soon, the entire House will vote and elect the next Speaker – without multiple days of distraction and embarrassment to the country!
