Fox News reports that Republicans yesterday nominated GOP Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson (R-LA) as Speaker-Designate for the US House of Representatives (“House”).  Johnson was the fourth Republican nominee in the last three weeks.

House GOP lawmakers insist that their conference is finally on the same page and ready to unite under Johnson’s leadership, with a vote of the full House anticipated this afternoon.

House Republicans held a speaker election yesterday, in which House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) came out on top; however, subsequent opposition, including opposition from former President Donald J. Trump, forced Emmer to drop out of the running for Speaker.

FGGAM will provide an update following this afternoon’s vote of the full House.
