US Congress Formally Approves Temporary Funding Of The Federal Government

The Associated Press (“AP News”) reports that the US Senate met into the night yesterday (11/15/2023), passing a temporary spending bill to fund the federal government beyond the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  The Senate’s approval came only one day following approval of the spending bill by the US House of Representatives (“House”) – as reported by FGGAM HERE.

Congress will now send the stopgap spending measure to President Joe Biden for his signature.  The two-step approach was not favored by many in the Senate, but it assures that the federal government will not face imminent shutdown.

The temporary spending bill does not include the White House’s nearly $106 billion request for wartime aid for Israel and Ukraine, nor does it include humanitarian funding for the Palestinians.  House Speaker Mike Johnson, who crafted the plan, has vowed that he will not support any further stopgap funding measures, known as continuing resolutions.

My brothers and sisters, the can has been kicked, yet again, down the road!  We can expect the struggle to begin again in January.  Let’s continue to pray for a change of hearts, with more congressional effort on unity – not simply for unity’s sake, but for the good of all Americans.

Irresponsible and misguided spending is simply that – irresponsible and misguided, regardless of one’s good intentions.

Praise Jesus forevermore!
