Fox News, and multiple other national news agencies, are reporting that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has dropped out of the 2024 Republican presidential race and endorsed former President Donald J. Trump.

Governor DeSantis announced his decision this afternoon to “suspend his campaign” in a video posted to “X” (formerly Twitter):
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

During the video, Governor DeSantis said that “if there was anything I could do to produce a favorable outcome, more campaign stops, more interviews, I would do it, but I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory. Accordingly, I am today suspending my campaign.”
This leaves, essentially, the Republican Party’s primary race between Ambassador Nikki Haley and President Donald J. Trump. Given the strength of Trump’s conservative base of supporters, Governor Ron DeSantis’ departure and endorsement will almost certainly serve to strengthen Trump’s reelection hopes.
