For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 3:17
We’ve all heard about Karma. As Believers in Jesus Christ, we have a difference of opinion on this subject.
Life with God is one of freedom and grace, peace and hope. But a life established in the belief of karma, is one of fear and condemnation.
Fear of making a mistake and falling short. Because then, there’ll be hell to pay.
Karma teaches that the universe will return to us good for good and bad for bad. In other words, good things happen to good people, bad things happen to bad people. Yet because we are imperfect people, karma will always bring condemnation.
I take this to mean that our sins are never forgiven, they’re just temporarily postponed.
The Bible does not teach karma. It teaches grace. God’s Grace!
Grace is where you get what you don’t deserve. It’s God’s unmerited favor. It is bestowed upon us by God, because He desires us to have it.
I’ve heard it said that karma does not necessarily have to be experienced in this life, it may be “payed-back” in the next life…. Reincarnation.
Karma is believed to be what dictates your future state.
The problem with that is, scripture tells us we’re appointed to die ONCE. Not over and over.
It’s one and done!
Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.
Hebrews 9:27
(And it’s not because of a reincarnation, it’s because of a resurrection.)
I’ve recently had someone talking about how “karma” is going to come back on us, but they never mentioned karma on themselves for doing the exact thing they accused us of doing.
In-other-words, karma’s for everyone else, but not the culprit. Yet, they’ll call Christians hypocrites, all the while, denying any wrongdoing.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23
If life operates on karma, then we have no hope. After all, we are all sinners, and only God’s grace can save us from our life of sin.
Karma does sound similar to the Bible verse “you reap what you sow.” But as Christians, we believe in grace as opposed to karma.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Galatians 6:7
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8
This is precisely why reincarnation and karma are definitely not compatible with what scripture teaches about life, death, and the sowing and reaping of eternal life.
Because of the grace God gives us, we are able to then show grace to others as we seek to follow Jesus.
He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.
2 Timothy 1:9
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
Titus 2:11
