“Call to Me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV
Ever wish God had a direct line, like your best friend? Imagine having a hotline to God Almighty, where you could dial up divine guidance and blessing anytime. It is like having that friend who knows all about your quirky personality and still chooses to love you unconditionally.
I got this sign in my office at home that reads, ” Friendship is when people know all about you but like you anyway.” We all crave that kind of connection, don’t we? But there is this interweave in the contrast between friends and God almighty. My friends learned to love me, but I wasn’t sure God would or could. I later realized God is that friend who loved me more than anyone, my good, bad, and ugly parts. Have you ever felt unlovable, misunderstood, or rejected? I’ve been there, trying to earn love.
In this verse in Jeremiah, God encourages us to pray; He says we can call upon him for blessings. He was telling Jeremiah and declaring the wonderful blessings He had in store for Israel. He wants to give us beautiful blessings, too. He tells us it is okay to ask for good things, mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
God wants His will to be done in our lives, in other’s lives, and in our country. He wants us to call upon Him. God is not about us jumping through hoops to earn His love or answers to our prayers. He is all about pouring out blessings and extravagant love to us all.
In this passage, God desires that we pray with His will in mind, knowing He would hear us. When we are praying, we do not know his timing or when what we are praying for will happen; he says, do it anyway. When we pray for His will, he does not get mad at us for asking because He is already determined to do it. God hears our cries and never gets impatient or annoyed by our repeated desires to materialize the prayer and fulfill the answers. It is His love that motivates us to pray and His love that answers our cries.
So, does God want to be a friend to all people? Of course, He is rooting for us and wants all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. Not only does God desire to be our friend, but He desires to answer our prayers and partner with us for His will to be done. We gain power when God is in the mix!
Jeremiah’s prayers were powerless without God, but God called him to seek Him.
The Lord sets one’s heart on fire for Him to show He is powerful, longing to astound us with answered prayers. He hears our prayers as we proclaim His will over our lives and families. It’s not about annoying him with our requests; it’s about partnering with God for His incredible plans.
” Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened for you.” Matthew 7:7 NKJV
Who wouldn’t want a friend like God? Imagine a friend who knows all, sees all and loves us anyway. Not only is God a friend that sticks closer than a brother, but He also gives us insight into what to pray. Without insight, how does one pray effectively? And guess what? God gives Jeremiah his phone number right there in Jeremiah 33:3. He says call me; I am your friend, I know all about you, and my love for you extends and exists throughout your life, past, present, and future. Like your natural earthly friends that love you anyway, God is not moved by what He sees; His love is not conditional but unconditional.
Remember, God does have a physical phone number. It can be found in Jeremiah 3:33, where He says, ” CALL ON ME, AND I WILL SHOW YOU GREAT AND MIGHTY THINGS.”
So go ahead and dial up the divine hotline. God’s waiting to be your eternal friend who loves you, quirks and all!
