Recently my grandsons were searching for music and came across “Mary Did You Know.” As I sat and listened, I mean really listened, one stanza struck me. It says “Mary did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod? And when you kiss your little baby you’ve kissed the face of God.”
Imagine what Mary must have felt as she looked into the face of her baby boy, knowing He was the Son of God. The song goes on to say “The sleeping child you’re holding is the great I Am.” The God of the universe was the sleeping baby in her arms. She must have been in awe and wonder as no words could have described what she felt.
Can you imagine looking into the face of God? Well, you do it every day. All you have to do is look into the faces of your children, your loved ones, your neighbors, and even perfect strangers. You have beheld the face of God.
We have all been created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27 says So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. We are image bearers of our Father in heaven.
As we approach Sanctity of Life Day it is important to remind ourselves that every baby that dies by abortion was created in the image of Almighty God and they were precious in His sight. Abortion is not just a crime against a mother and child, but an assault on a God who loves us so much that he sent us His Son to this world to save us. He sent Him as a baby, vulnerable and in need of protection. Why? He knew there would come a day when we would need to be reminded that every child, planned or unplanned is an image bearer of God and deserves protection.
Today as you kiss your loved ones, know that you are kissing the face of God.
God bless you!
