The Associated Press (“AP News”) reports that the U.S. House of Representatives (“House”) successfully voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday (2/13/2024), alleging a “willful and systematic” refusal to enforce immigration laws. In an historic rebuke, the House impeached Mayorkas 214-213.
The return of Majority Leader Steve Scalise bolstered the GOP’s numbers after being away from Washington for cancer care and despite significant dissent within the Republican Party’s own ranks.
President Joe Biden referred to the impeachment as a “blatant act of unconstitutional partisanship that has targeted an honorable public servant in order to play petty political games.”
The charges against Mayorkas will be forwarded to the U.S. Senate for trial; however, Democratic senators, and even some Republican senators, have shown little interest in pursuing the matter. The Senate is expected to receive the articles of impeachment from the House on or about February 26, 2024.

This writer finds it incredible that President Biden, in light of the immigration problems affecting the entire country as a direct result of his administration’s border policies, would refer to the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas as “petty political games.” The nationwide impacts resulting from illegal and uncontrolled immigration at the southern U.S. border is anything but petty or akin to a game.
As believers, let’s pray that God’s will is done in this matter, and that godly wisdom – not the wisdom of the world – prevails, bringing clarity and unity, in Jesus’ name!
Some supporting scripture:
1 Corinthians 3:19 (NLT)
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, ‘He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.’”
1 Timothy 2:1-3 (ESV)
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions [emphasis mine], that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior…”.
Matthew 6:9-13 (NKJV)
The Lord’s Prayer
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, [h]allowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done [o]n earth as it is in heaven [emphasis mine]. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts [trespasses], [a]s we forgive our debtors [those who trespass against us]. And do not lead us into temptation, [b]ut deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
Praise Jesus forevermore!
