I will state right away here, that I have witnessed first hand the leadership of Rod Montoya. The man is a committed Christian, not afraid to speak up for Christian values! I pray more Pastors would speak out about all the ugly here in New Mexico and carry out The Great Commission and baptize people. I once witnessed Mr. Montoya being told by former Dem leader Brian Egolf, that Pastors that were at the Capitol for a prayer meeting, could not be on the house floor to pray before the session started. NOBODY was in there except us! Mr. Montoya ruled that day over Egolf, we prayed and then left the floor. Egolf went off mad. Montoya stood his ground! The GOP needs more Rod Montoya’s!
Years ago when I was asked to pray before the session started that day, Egolf was asked to pray for a Legislator who was ill, I told Egolf I would include that need in my ‘house prayer,’ he replied, NO! Not good!
Now read what Mr. Montoya is going to do! He would make a great governor! The GOP needs to get tough on evil. Montoya is leading the charge! The GOP could not even beat the worst governor in New Mexico history in the last election! Montoya is part of the needed answer to change the GOP in New Mexico, to be more aggressive to do what is right and stand strong. The GOP candidate for governor, Marek Ronchetti, wavered on abortion and other issues! NOT GOOD! This past week we have seen strong stances by Montoya and Rep. Gail Armstrong!!! BACKBONE! “Hollow Promises Are Pathetic” – An Op-Ed By New Mexico Representative Gail Armstrong. Here’s hoping the GOP will now get a new Chairman soon! One with backbone, never should have lost to Lujan Grisham! Own it!
FGGAM received this press release from the NM House GOP:
SANTA FE – House Republican Floor Leader Rod Montoya, State Representative Larry Scott, and Lea County Sheriff Corey Helton announced a tour with the Western States Sheriffs’ Association to visit the New Mexico-Mexico border. The event, organized by Montoya, Scott and Helton, will include members of the House Republican Caucus. The visit will take place April 30th and will provide members of the legislature with a full understanding of the impacts the open border is having in communities across the state. Members will be announcing a legislative package to protect the people of New Mexico.
“The Governor refuses to take action along the border while saying it’s the federal government’s responsibility,” said House Republican Leader Rod Montoya. “The federal government is responsible for securing the border, but it’s the responsibility of the governor and the legislature to protect New Mexico citizens. And this is what we will try to do during the upcoming special session.”
House Republicans plan to introduce bills that have been proven effective in other states, such as addressing stash houses, human trafficking, and drug smuggling, among other proposals.
“If the Governor wants to call us back into a special session, she needs to know that public safety proposals must include policies that directly address our wide-open border,” said State Representative Larry Scott. “Simply put, open borders equal more crime, and it’s past the time for the Governor to take the border crisis seriously if we are ever going to reduce our state’s violent crime and illegal drug problem.”
House Republicans will convene a roundtable with the Western States Sheriffs’ Association, the National Sheriffs Association, and the US Border Patrol after the tour to discuss several border security proposals that they hope will gain bipartisan support during the July special session. In addition, they will be holding a press conference shortly after the roundtable discussion.
Republican House members and law enforcement officials will tour the border in several areas including those locations where most of the “getaways” occur. “Taking photos at the “wall” gives a false impression of what our border is really like,” said Lea County Sheriff Corey Helton. “The reality is that almost all of our border is either wide open or secured with minimal wire fencing.”
Members of the Republican Caucus will be available for a press conference at 11:15 to discuss their visit to the border as well as proposed legislation dealing with the issues surrounding illegal immigration.
