UPDATE

Yesterday (5/30/2024), the Republican Party of New Mexico (“RPNM”) issued a follow-up press release regarding U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (D-NM), after additional records were discovered following a public records request with the City of Las Cruces, New Mexico, by the Washington Free Beacon (“WFB”).

In the press release, RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce calls for Representative Vasquez to resign from his position as U.S. congressman, citing Vasquez’ use of the “N-word” to harass a former work colleague after his termination from employment due to falsifying data, domestic disturbances with his former girlfriend, and attempting to evade law enforcement by flushing his marijuana down the toilette (which was illegal to possess at the time).

The RPNM follow-up press release may be read HERE.

The WFB report in this matter may be read HERE.

Here is the original FGGAM report from May 28, 2024:

Gregory Hollister with the Piñon Post recently reported that U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (D-NM) was arrested on March 19, 2024 in El Paso, Texas, pursuant to an outstanding arrest warrant.

The executed arrest warrant was issued on April 8, 2008 for a traffic violation cited against Representative Vasquez on April 12, 2002 and his subsequent failure to either establish a court date and/or pay the mandated fine and related fees by October 12, 2007.

Following his arrest on March 19, 2024, the Piñon Post reports that Representative Vasquez paid a cash bond of nearly $900, pleaded no contest, and waived his right to a jury trial.  Court filings indicate that Vasquez faces a pre-trial hearing in September 2024; however, a spokesperson for Vasquez describes the September hearing as an “administrative mistake” he will correct by filing necessary documents with the court.

The Piñon Post article may be read in full HERE.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Democratic Rep. Gabe Vasquez’s Arrest Underscores His Contempt for the Law

MAY 28—It was recently exposed that Police in El Paso, TX, executed an arrest warrant against Democratic Representative Gabe Vasquez in March of this year.  Vasquez was cited in 2002 for driving without a license or insurance.  Those are fairly minor issues for the Congressman to correct, but Vasquez’s real character showed when he failed to appear in court.  In 2007, Vasquez was cited again for not appearing in court, and an arrest warrant was issued in 2008.  That warrant for his arrest remained outstanding until March of this year when Vasquez was arrested.  He pleaded “no contest” to these charges and posted his bond.  He must appear in court for a pre-trial hearing in September.

“Gabe Vasquez’s arrest underscores his contempt for the law and law enforcement,” said Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce.

“Rep. Vasquez has advocated for defunding the police and has even voted against holding illegal immigrants who commit crimes in the U.S. accountable.  Vasquez’s voting record, coupled with his recent arrest, does not give New Mexicans confidence in his ability to take a strong stance on crime and criminals.  If New Mexicans want to see law and order restored to our state, Yvette Herrell is the only choice in November.”

My brothers and sisters, FGGAM does not report about this situation in an effort to be politically partisan, but because it is a matter of public record pertaining to a high-level federal politician from New Mexico with a congressional record of voting for “defunding” of police and reported leniency in matters of crime fighting and the disposition of criminals.

Elected public officials, and most especially high-ranking federal officials in the U.S. Congress, need to be held to a strict standard of trust, honesty and integrity.

Regardless of Representative Vasquez’ view of law enforcement or the citation he received in El Paso on April 12, 2002, there is no acceptable reason that the vetting of a candidate for the U.S. Congress would not have disclosed this situation and resulted in immediate correction.

Failing to acknowledge and address this situation in a timely manner makes some persons legitimately wonder why this was not previously addressed, as a matter of integrity, as Representative Vasquez’ position as a U.S. congressman requires great trust and establishes law for the entire United States.

The bible says that godly wisdom, honesty and integrity are very important:

Proverbs 2:6-8 (NLT)
“For the Lord grants wisdom!  From [H]is mouth come knowledge and understanding.  He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.  He is a shield to those who walk with integrity [emphases mine].  He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to [H]im.”

The bible also says that we should lift up our leaders in prayer.  Let’s pray that all of our federal officials, including Representative Vasquez, would seek the Lord, walk in the wisdom of God, and recognize the trickery and deceit of the evil one:

1 Timothy 2:1-3 (ESV)
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions [emphasis mine], that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.  This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior…”.

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
