In the Likeness of God

The following is an excerpt from a book written by A. J. Gorden, a minister and author from the 19th century:

“Two little saplings grew up side by side.  Through the action of the wind, they crossed each other.  By and by each became wounded by the friction.  The sap began to mingle until one calm day they became attached.  Then the stronger began to absorb the weaker.  It became larger and larger, while the other withered and declined till it finally dropped away and disappeared.  And now there are two trunks at the bottom and only one farther up.  Death has taken away the one; Life has triumphed in the other.”

What a great example this is of what happens to those who put their faith in Jesus Christ.  Some of us flutter about aimlessly in whatever direction the wind blows, not aware or even interested in the one always present…just a prayer away.  Then one calm day…or in the middle of a storm…we hear that still small voice of hope, and we accept the relief and forgiveness of sin that God offers.  And what a relief it is!

Once we begin our journey… our walk with Christ, old thoughts and feelings begin to pass away and we glory in the newness of a new life and new opportunities to serve Him.  When God’s Holy Spirit comes into our heart, and as we draw near to Him, we become more like Him.  Our outlook becomes different and we begin to ask ourselves “What would Jesus do?”

Do you remember when you first encountered Jesus?   Has He been talking to your heart and urging you to accept Him, but you put Him off?  Don’t put it off any longer, accept the love He offers and begin a new life in Him today.

Gal. 2: 20 It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.

Phil. 1: 21…to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

2 Cor. 5: 17 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.  Old things are passed away; behold all things are become new,
