The Associated Press (“AP News”) reports that severe thunderstorms pummeled southeastern Texas yesterday (5/16/2024) with high winds blowing out windows, downing trees, and knocking out power to more than 900,000 homes and businesses in the Houston area.  Houston Mayor John Whitmire said four people died during the severe weather.

Flights were briefly grounded at Houston’s two major airports, with sustained winds of more than 60 MPH recorded at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The severe storms moved from Texas into neighboring Louisiana last night, leaving more than 215,000 residents without power, including more than 100,000 residents in greater New Orleans.  A tornado was reported in Convent, Louisiana (roughly 55 miles from New Orleans).

Let’s pray.  Father, we ask for your love, protection, peace and favor to be upon all of those who have lost loved ones and property during these storms, and we ask that You would guide the hands of all those first responders and electrical repair persons, who so often are faced with dangerous, yet critical, repair jobs.  We ask these things in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
