UPDATE:

According to The Associated Press (“AP News”), Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, notwithstanding some thruster troubles upon docking, successfully docked with the International Space Station (“ISS”) this afternoon (6/6/2024).

The following is a YouTube video of NASA’s coverage, documenting the arrival of astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore at the ISS:

The Associated Press (“AP News”) reports that Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft and two NASA astronauts launched yesterday (6/5/2024) from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.  This flight is one of the final steps needed for certification of the spacecraft.

The United Launch Alliance (“ULA”) Atlas V rocket and the Starliner spacecraft launched with two NASA astronauts aboard, Flight Commander Butch Wilmore and Pilot Suni Williams.  The astronauts are testing the end-to-end capabilities of the Starliner’s system, including launch procedures, docking with the International Space Station (“ISS”), and its return to earth, which includes a parachute landing upon the ground instead of landing in the ocean.

How wonderful it will be for the United States to have both SpaceX and Boeing spacecraft available for transport to the ISS and beyond!  As a joint venture with NASA, much of the expense associated with the SpaceX and Boeing projects is being borne by the private companies, mitigating the amount of taxpayer funding necessary to move these projects forward.

My brothers and sisters, let’s remember to pray for the astronauts, especially as this flight is still considered a test flight of a new spacecraft.

The bible says that the Lord is a shield (see Psalm 18:30), and that He will keep us from harm and watch over our lives (see Psalm 121:7-8).  Father, we ask this for all of our astronauts, right now, in the name of Jesus!

Here are the above-referenced scriptures:

Psalm 18:30 (NLT)
“God’s way is perfect.  All the Lord’s promises prove true.  He is a shield for all who look to [H]im for protection.”

Psalm 121:7-8 (NLT)
“The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.  The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
