Do we really need the Church? Why we should prioritize Church attendance

FGGAM Photo. We thank Charles Stanley’s ministry for helping us with ministry tools as we carry out The Great Commission. This photo is from our trip into Arizona sharing JESUS! JESUS! Pastor Dewey was wearing his ‘Ask me about Jesus’ shirt, and this lovely asked him if he knew JESUS! What a conversation starter! JESUS!

I wanted to share this with you all! The Baptist Press does an excellent work addressing issues that we all care about! Right now, I know more than a handful of Churches that are struggling in regard to Church attendance. I have spent many years trying to help Churches and Pastors. I have worn out two cars traveling around New Mexico. I have helped Churches going through splits, it is no fun, it is hard work. It is a very valuable education when God puts you in the middle of Church splits! I now can ‘smell’ them or the impeding death of a Church a coming. I remember what the SBC leader in New Mexico told me years ago when I was helping a Church going through a split, “Dewey! some Churches just need a funeral!” That shocked me so much that I almost fell over in my chair! Some Churches do not realize when they are DEAD! The presence of ther Holy Spirit is gone! By the way, I stuck with that dying Church, God said to, and God sent them a Pastor and they are doing fine! Remember, your Pastor cannot do it alone! I have dedicated a huge part of my life to help Churches, but I have come to realize I cannot help them all. I pray that you share this article.

PS! I was thinking about how the Lord used me in my 42 years in radio. I was hired to turn around failing radio stations. Now for ther last almost 12 years, God has used me to help His Church. That just came to me as I get ready to celebrate my 68th birthday on July 4th. I will always be thankful for Pastor Garland Moore of Grants, NM, who helped me get started helping Churches. What an education! We will be 12 years young in August here at FGGAM. God has directed us to do more and more Great Commission work! GLORY! Why Churches Talk the Great Commission But Don’t Do It

It was an honest question from an unbeliever I’d known for years. Our recent discussion about following Christ turned to more pragmatic matters born out of his general observations about Christianity in general. “Why would I give up my one day off in order to gather with bunch of people I don’t know?” was his follow-up.

Perhaps you’ve wondered the same. Do we really need the church? If we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, why does it matter if we regularly gather with a body of other believers to worship? What are we missing out on if we just stay home on Sundays? To answer these questions, we turn to the book of Hebrews where we find a biblical vision for church participation. These words demonstrate what should motivate us to worship with the saints and how we benefit from doing so.

First, Jesus died to make worship in the church possible. The book of Hebrews reads like a sermon about the sacrificial work of Jesus on the cross, with a main point of emphasis on the access we have to God the Father through Christ the Son. Hebrews 10:19 says we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus. As a result, we are told to hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (Hebrews 10:23). In other words, individual believers faithfully worship the Lord because Jesus made it possible. But what does that have to do with the church? The Rest of The Story Here
