If you are the owner of a Hyundai or Kia vehicle, please note that there have been several recalls since September 2023 to prevent unintended vehicle roll-aways and fires due to leaking brake fluid and electrical shorts in the seat tilt motor(s).
Recall No. 1
On April 1, 2024, The Associated Press (“AP News”) reported that during September 2023, Hyundai and Kia recalled 3.4 million of the companies’ top-selling 2010-2017 models, including Hyundai’s Santa Fe and Elantra, and Kia’s Sportage and Forte. Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to park the vehicles outdoors and away from buildings because of the risk they might catch on fire, whether the engines are on or off.
It was determined that brake fluid could leak onto the circuit boards of antilock braking systems, triggering an electrical short and igniting the fluid. Hyundai and Kia have urged owners of the affected vehicles’ to contact the companies or dealers if they see dashboard warning lights or smell something burning.

Recall No. 2
On March 31, 2024, AP News reported that Kia recalled all 2020-2023 and select 2024 Telluride SUVs manufactured between January 9, 2019 and October 19, 2023. These vehicles have intermediate shafts and right-front driveshafts that may not be fully engaged, which over time, could lead to “unintended vehicle movement” – even when the vehicles are in park.

Recall No. 3
Today (6/7/2024), AP News reports that Kia has recalled nearly 463,000 Kia Telluride SUVs because of faulty front seat motors affecting 2020-2024 models. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the front seat slide knob may become stuck and result in a fire, whether the vehicle is parked or being driven.
Kia has urged owners to park the affected vehicles outside and away from other structures until the issue has been corrected.

My brothers and sisters, FGGAM is not reporting about these recalls to speak poorly of Hyundai or Kia, as the vehicles tend to be reasonably priced and well-liked by many, but as a public service because so many persons who own these vehicles may not be aware of the risks addressed in the recalls. The safety of our families is paramount!
If you think you might have a vehicle meeting one or more of the aforementioned recalls, please contact the company or your local dealer to determine the best approach to obtain necessary corrective action. This is wisdom!
