I see reports of wildfires popping up all over Colorado, Wyoming, and other locations. Our heart breaks at all the flooding in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The area has had so many fires that when it rains that water rushes down the mountains and floods the area. We pray for no rain in that area and for all wall of protection to be built around Ruidoso. Across the interior West, spotty afternoon thunderstorms have become a part of the normal pattern over the last few weeks. While locally drenching thunderstorms have resulted in areas of flash flooding for portions of the interior Southwest, locations closer to the coast have missed out on much of the activity.
The position of high pressure over portions of the interior southwest and south-central U.S. has aided in the transportation of Pacific moisture into the Four Corners. Daily chances for afternoon thunderstorms have become a theme in the Southwest under a consistent regime of prevailing southerly and southeasterly winds. More Here

Currently, 89 large active wildfires are being managed nationwide, and have burned 2,123,318 acres. So far in 2024, 27,982 wildfires have burned 4,247,895 acres. People have caused more than 25,000 wildfires that have burned nearly 3 million acres. Lightning ignited about 2,740 wildfires and burned 1.1 million acres. More Here
