NM Dems unwilling or unable to tackle to-the-point and hard-hitting bills. NM Senate GOP Issue Statement Following Conclusion of “Public Safety” Special Session

FGGAM News Director Chuck Akeley: My brothers and sisters, legislators of Governor Lujan Grisham’s own political party failed to put forth proposed legislation and refused to even debate legislation already put forth by the Republican party. Sadly, it seems that the Majority Party is unwilling or unable to tackle to-the-point and hard-hitting bills addressing the scourge of crime in New Mexico. When Governor Lujan Grisham states that “[t]he legislature should be embarrassed at [its] inability to summon even an ounce of courage to adopt common-sense legislation…”, something very dramatic is happening, even if it is happening behind the scenes.

Pastor Dewey Moede: This stinks to high heaven! The DEMS ran away for very serious issues you and I have living here! This is so wrong!
FGGAM received this news release late yesterday:
Senate Republicans Issue Statement Following Conclusion of “Public Safety” Special Session
SANTA FE—Today, the Special Session to address public safety adjourned after a short five hours. A single bill was passed to appropriate funds for the Special Session, wildfire relief, assisted outpatient treatment programs, and competency diversion pilot programs. The bill in full can be found here.
Following the adjournment of the special session, Senate Republican Leader Senator Greg Baca (R-Belen), Senate Republican Whip Senator Craig Brandt (R-Rio Rancho), and Senate Republican Caucus Chair Mark Moores (R-Albuquerque) issued the following joint statement:
“It is sad to see this opportunity to address public safety squandered. Time and time again, Democrats in the legislature have been unwilling to take a small step forward to curb the crime crisis plaguing our state. We recognize no bill is perfect at introduction, but under the Democrat-controlled Senate and House, we did not even bother to give these bills a committee hearing today. We thank the Governor for being bold enough to take a stand on public safety even when her party abandoned her and the citizens of New Mexico. There has never been a clearer example for a need to put control of the Legislature in the hands of Republicans.”
