I saw this wonderful, heartfelt story on Facebook and I wanted to share it with you all. I called the publisher of the Eastern New Mexico News this morning and asked if I could share this awesome story written by Matt Weiner! We thank  Publisher David Stevens for allowing us to share this story with the world! Mr. Hank Baskett Jr. surely stood in the gap for God’s children! Our prayers go out to Mr. Baskett’s family and the community of Clovis.

I pray that the life of Mr. Baskett will inspire us all to take better care of all the children in our communities! Gory!

Death was rapidly approaching. His once cancer-riddled lungs puffed out his last breaths. Hospice workers occupied his Clovis home.

Yet, Hank Baskett Jr.’s face was aglow when his son Hank Baskett III and his grandkids walked in.

“You saw the light in his eyes,” said the younger Baskett.

In that brief moment, he once again exemplified the positivity and magnetic charm that made him a pillar of Clovis for decades. His children — his own, their kids, and the hundreds of those he helped heal as executive director for two decades at the Oasis Children’s Advocacy Center – always gave him purpose and inspired him.

“Kids have always pushed him because he always knew that God’s gift to us is our children,” said Hank Baskett III, the former NFL player. “… I always told him how much he changed the world.” More Here

Jesus says several things about children, including that they are gifts from God and blessings to families, and that they should be nurtured and guided:
  • Luke 18:16-17
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it”
  • Matthew 18:2-6
“And whoever welcomes one such child in My name welcomes Me. If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in Me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea”
  • Matthew 18:10
“See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My father who is in heaven”
