Fox News reports this morning that U.S. Secret Service (“USSS”) Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned following yesterday’s blistering hearing before the U.S. House of Representative’s Oversight Committee and following Thomas Crooks’ attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.

CNN reports that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has appointed USSS Deputy Director Ronald Rowe to assume the duties of Acting USSS Director. Regarding Rowe, Mayorkas said that “I appreciate his willingness to lead the Secret Service at this incredibly challenging moment, as the agency works to get to the bottom of exactly what happened on July 13 and cooperate with ongoing investigations and Congressional oversight.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries today announced the formation of a bipartisan task force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The task force will be comprised of seven Republicans and six Democrats. The House will vote on a resolution later this week to establish the task force.

ABC News reports that (now-former) USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle informed USSS employees of her resignation in an email obtained by ABC News. The email stated, in part, that “[t]he Secret Service’s solemn mission is to protect our nation’s leaders and financial infrastructure. On July 13th, we fell short on that mission. … As your Director, I take full responsibility for the security lapse.”
Cheatle had faced calls to resign from both Republicans and Democrats following the assassination attempt. Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Representative James Comer (R-KY), told Cheatle during yesterday’s hearing that he was among those who believed she should resign.

My brothers and sisters, it is the view of this writer that there are too many appointments within the Biden Administration seemingly selected for reasons other than merit, leadership and competence.
In matters of USSS operation, it is still a reality to say that the ‘fate of the free world’ has been given into the care and protection of agencies such as the USSS.
As Christians, we know that the answer to the world’s troubles is found only in our relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ, and is manifested through the power of prayer, the truth of the scriptures, and the revelation of the Holy Spirit revealed to those who have ears to hear!
The evil one hates the truth. He hates you. He hates me. And, he especially hates Jesus. He prowls like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (see 1 Peter 5:8). His purpose on the earth, until his demise, is to steal, kill and destroy (see John 10:10).
The evil one failed to kill a former U.S. president this time, but not because of our worldly intelligence and competence, but by the grace of God. The wisdom of the world is foolishness to God (see 1 Corinthians 3:19).
As followers of Christ, let’s pray for the United States of America and its leaders (see 1 Timothy 2:1-3) at this critical and divisive moment in our nation’s history, asking for God’s will to be done and for peace to be restored to the land (see 2 Chronicles 7:14).
