REUTERS reports that META CEO Mark Zuckerberg has acknowledged that senior officials in the Biden administration pressured META social media platforms (including Facebook) to censor COVID-19 content during the pandemic.

In a letter addressed to U.S. Representative Jim Jordan, Chairman, Judiciary Committee, U.S. House of Representatives, dated August 26, 2024, Zuckerberg said that he regretted some decisions he made to remove content on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and for not speaking up about this pressure earlier.

Zuckerberg stated in the letter that “I believe the government pressure was wrong” and “I also think we made some choices that, with the benefit of hindsight and new information, we wouldn’t make today.”

My brothers and sisters, what is clear is that ‘the truth’ (or even the promise of free speech in accord with the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution) is not necessarily desired by our federal government, as evidenced by government suppression of free speech during the COVID-19 pandemic.  In fact, it seems, as this writer has said many times before, that the ‘casualty of our times’ is the truth!

If we place more trust in government than the trust we place in God, and the truth and salvation found only in Christ Jesus, we are in trouble.  How sad and predictable it is that once the damage has been done, the ‘truth’ seems to come out.

If we choose to follow personal ideology and desire the politics of civil government which benefit us individually more than the greater good of our nation, state or communities, we’ve lost our way.  More to the point, we’ve lost our love.

Being a Christian compels us to love others (even our enemies), to prefer and seek the best for others, and to live our lives from the perspective of a biblical worldview – not to put our faith in ideology – which then becomes an idol.

Matthew 5:43-45 (NKJV)
Love Your Enemies
“You have heard that it was said, ‘[y]ou shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

Romans 12:9-11 (NKJV)
Behave Like a Christian
“Let love be without hypocrisy.  Abhor what is evil.  Cling to what is good.  Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another [emphasis mine]; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord…”.

The Truth is a Person and His name is Jesus!

John 14:6 (NKJV)
“Jesus said to [Thomas], ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”

The devil is a liar, the deceiver of the whole world, and the father of lies!

Revelation 12:7-9 (ESV)
Satan Thrown Down to Earth
“Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon.  And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.  And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world [emphasis mine]—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”

John 8:44 (ESV)
“You [the Pharisees] are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires.  He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies [emphasis mine].”

Let’s keep our spiritual eyes and ears wide open (read:  discernment) to know the difference between the truth and deception.  As believers, we have the mind of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to guide us in all matters of truth and discernment.  Amen!

1 Corinthians 2:16 (Amplified Bible)
“For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?  But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes].”

John 15:26 (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit Proceeds from the Father and Testifies of Jesus
“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me [Jesus].”

John 16:13 (NKJV)
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
