Actor Dennis Quaid tells CHURCH LEADERS that President Ronald W. Reagan’s Christian faith was a central part of his life, guiding every decision he made, and that “he wouldn’t have been president without that.” Quaid said that those principles guiding Reagan’s life were “not Republican principles or Democrat principles. They go beyond that. They are Christian principles.”
In reference to the attempted assassination of Reagan in 1981, Quaid said “…that bullet was so close to his heart. He told Tip O’Neill, who came to see him there in the hospital, that [Reagan] felt his life was not his anymore. He belonged to the man upstairs.”

Here is a YouTube video of Quaid discussing Reagan’s Christian faith:
This writer remembers the assassination attempt well, as I was in Denton, Texas, attending my second semester of college. But, for those who might not be old enough to remember, here is a PBS video report on the attempted assassination of President Reagan by John Hinckley on March 30, 1981:
Praise God for political leaders who understand that every good thing and every perfect gift comes from above (see James 1:17), and that godly leadership is the only way for civil government to benefit all citizens!
There have been many reports over the years indicating that Reagan was wounded much more severely than was initially released to the public. It was only by the grace of God that he recovered.
To this day, many persons, including this writer and FGGAM’s Co-Founder and Pastor, Dewey Moede, consider Reagan to be one of the finest presidents to ever hold office in the United States.
Sadly, evil still abounds in the world, as evidenced by the recent attempt on former President Donald J. Trump’s life. As believers, let’s be sure to pray for the protection of all of our elected and appointed government officials (see 1 Timothy 2:1-3).
Let’s also pray and repent for the sin that is so deeply affecting our nation (see 2 Chronicles 7:14). Let’s pray that the love of Christ would always guide our actions and that the name of Jesus would again be unashamedly spoken in government, in public, in our workplaces and in our homes – without fear or lukewarm faith limiting our expression of Christian faith to an hour or so on Sunday mornings!
Here are the above-referenced scriptures:
James 1:17 (Amplified Bible)
“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].”
1 Timothy 2:1-3 (ESV)
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior…”.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV)
“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
