The Associated Press (“AP News”) reports that Vice President Kamala D. Harris has selected Minnesota Governor Timothy (“Tim”) James Walz to be her vice presidential running mate for the upcoming General Election in November. She plans to introduce Walz at a rally this evening (8/6/2024) in Philadelphia.

CNN also reports that Governor Walz has been selected to be Vice President Harris’ running mate. Walz’ selection illustrates the power of social media, as he was not a top contender for the position until recently, following his social media attacks on Republicans as being “weird.”

According to Wikipedia, Waltz is a U.S. Army veteran and retired educator currently serving as the 41st governor of Minnesota. He was previously a Democratic U.S. congressman representing Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District from 2007 to 2019. He became Minnesota’s governor on November 6, 2018 and was reelected in 2022.
