Pastor Justin Wainscott is the Associate Dean and Assistant Professor of Ministry for the School of Theology and Missions, Union University, Jackson, Tennessee.
Writing for the Baptist Press, Wainscott makes a powerful case as to why we should consider (or continue) prioritizing the singing of familiar Christmas carols in our churches during the Advent and Christmas seasons. He suggests that the overwhelming majority songs during the Christmas season should be familiar English carols, and that regardless of church size or preferred style of worship, such a practice should not be controversial.
Wainscott asks churches to prioritize familiar Christmas carols for many reasons, including (generally) sound theology, unity, musical quality, ease of congregational singing, involvement of non-believers, and the learning of these songs by our children.

My brothers and sisters, by way of example, and considering what is happening in Israel right now, what better choice could be made during this Christmas season than for the congregation to sing O Little Town Of Bethlehem?
