Many thoughts come to my mind on this. First, America needs to address the issue of FORMER FELONS. I have been ministering to a young man who has turned his life around, he is an outstanding man. He is excelling in his present job, but cannot advance. Being a former felon he is not allowed to flourish in the work place. His record is held against him and he can only go so far and then he is stopped from making his life better and also serving more people people with his talents God has given him. As he told me, it is no wonder many felons return to their former life because society has out them in a lifetime of prison. This issue needs to be addressed. I once had a talk on the phone with the warden of a Louisiana prison about a felon of a family I know. The warden helped the situation, he did not pour gas on the fire. With the help of this warden the young man was given a second chance. I know so many felons who are such loving and hard working people of God. It is not right to put ‘cap’ on their life. Many are never given a second chance. The prison system in America is a failure. You cannot not just lock up a human being and put them in a cage and expect them to change. JESUS can rehabilitate anybody! I have seen it! Glory! JESUS ABOVE ALL NAMES!

Over 10,000 ex-prisoners are released from America’s state and federal prisons every week and arrive on the doorsteps of our nation’s communities. More than 650,000 ex-offenders are released from prison every year, and studies show that approximately two-thirds will likely be rearrested within three years of release. The high volume of returnees is a reflection on the tremendous growth in the U.S. prison population during the past 30 years. For the communities to which most former prisoners return (communities which are often impoverished and disenfranchised neighborhoods with few social supports and persistently high crime rates), the release of ex-offenders represents a variety of challenges.
What can be done to help people who are released from prison keep from being rearrested? With no job, no money, and no place to live, returnees often find themselves facing the same pressures and temptations that landed them in prison in the first place. Assisting ex-prisoners in finding and keeping employment, identifying transitional housing, and receiving mentoring are three key elements of successful re-entry into our communities. More Here
“This year, some 600,000 inmates will be released from prison back into society. We know from long experience that if they can’t find work, or a home, or help, they are much more likely to commit more crimes and return to prison…. America is the land of the second chance, and when the gates of the prison open, the path ahead should lead to a better life.”
–President George W. Bush, 2004 State of the Union Address
Two senators are demanding answers from the Federal Bureau of Prisons about why it rejected several offers from faith-based organizations looking to help convicted offenders avoid relapsing into criminal behavior.
Sens. James Lankford, R-Okla., and Gary Peters, D-Mich., requested documents detailing the BOP’s process for selecting applicants and other information in a Tuesday letter to the agency’s director, Colette Peters.
At issue is the agency’s implementation of the First Step Act, signed into law in 2018 by former President Donald Trump. More Here
