Let’s all take a moment on this Veterans Day to honor those ordinary people who have done something extraordinary so that we may all enjoy the freedom we treasure. Every day we should thank our veterans and those currently serving in the military. Our fellow Americans had to fight and be willing to die for what they believed in. Many of us have not had to face the reality of dying for our country, but we can remember and respect those who have sacrificed for our freedoms and those who are currently serving in our military.
It is beyond our ability to return to you what you gave up while serving our country. We cannot give you back lost time with your friends and family. We know you may have missed the birth of a child, a funeral of a family member or the graduation ceremony of a loved one. Your sacrifices came in many different forms including severe trauma.
Know that we appreciate you and recognize not only your service and not only your sacrifices, but your continuing struggles after returning home. Though alive, you in every sense have given your entire life for our freedom. If you are suffering from stress or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), take your concerns, worries, and fears to God. God is always thinking about you.
Victory with healing, recovery, and life in general comes with faith in God. When you need encouragement read this: “Anxious fear brings depression, but a life-giving word of encouragement can do wonders to restore joy to the heart.” Proverbs 12:25 TPT
Colossians 3:12 tells us to “clothe ourselves” in traits that match our identity in Christ. In other words, we need to cover ourselves in actions and attitudes that result in us looking more like Jesus every day. Start by thinking of the struggles that keep you from living more like Jesus, and then start to replace them with their opposite action.
- If your communication leans sarcastic and cutting, choose to say something kind instead.
- If you tend to come across as harsh, choose to do something that requires gentleness.
- If you’re holding a grudge, choose to extend forgiveness.
“Reckless words are like the thrusts of a sword, cutting remarks meant to stab and to hurt. But the words of the wise soothe and heal.” Proverbs 12:18 TPT
To our veterans and their families, thank you for your service. Without your outstanding dedication and courage, we wouldn’t be here today. The world is an extremely dangerous place, and you are our country’s most valuable treasure. You are respected and cherished. You are America’s hero and we honor you!
