Source New Mexico reports that the results of the 2024 General Election in New Mexico are official, following yesterday’s approval by a board comprised of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver, and Supreme Court Chief Justice David K. Thomson.
The board ordered a recount in only one race, as the seat vacated by Representative Jason Harper (R-District 58) was too close to call between candidates Republican Catherine Jeanette Cullen and Democrat Michelle Eleanor Sandoval.

This writer noted at least a couple interesting take-aways regarding New Mexico’s allowance for same-day voter registration.
First, the number of New Mexicans who elected to register and vote on Election Day (11/5/2024) dramatically increased to more than 8,000 persons, requiring many voters to submit provisional ballots.
Second, the high demand for same-day registration caused a brief outage early in the morning of Election Day and subsequent voter registration delays in 14 counties, according to election observers with the Carter Center.
Same-day registration has been legal in New Mexico since 2019. During local elections in 2023, roughly 4,900 voters used same-day voter registration, representing about two percent (2%) of all New Mexican voters.
My brothers and sisters, twice as many persons voted early than voted on Election Day, creating, arguably, an overextended voting period. It also seems unnecessary that more than 8,000 persons would need to both register and vote on Election Day – as thousands of already-registered, civic-minded citizens take off from work and stand in long voting lines.
Getting registered to vote is one of the most critical responsibilities of any U.S. citizen and is the very essence of democracy and the sustainment of our Republic. There are 365 days in each year, so waiting until Election Day seems unnecessary.
Regardless, I am thankful for a relatively uneventful election season, without too much drama!
On the other hand, New Mexico, as the General Election results show, remains a state with leadership (from the governor on down) that continues to support a culture of death (abortion, assisted suicide), questionable morals (parental marginalization and gender -related issues for children), drug use (marijuana ‘legalization’ and state-regulated medical and recreational grows, dispensaries and commercial stores), and which suffers violence, in many cases from undocumented persons with drug or mental issues being allowed freely into the state by both the federal and state governments’ laws and policies.
Lord, have mercy on our beautiful state of New Mexico!
The Bible is full of scripture telling us of God’s great mercy and goodness, and that if we will repent before Him, He will hear our prayers, forgive our sin and heal our land!
Psalm 86:5 (NKJV)
“For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, [a]nd abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.”
1 Chronicles 16:34 (NKJV)
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV)
“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
