Tsunami warning expires for Northern California, Oregon coasts after major 7.0 earthquake

A powerful 7.0 earthquake was recorded off shore of Ferndale, California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A Tsunami Warning was allowed to expire from Davenport, California to south of Florence, Oregon.

magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off the coast of northern California at 10:49 a.m. PST, with shaking felt across the region. The epicenter was 39 miles west of Petrolia, California, and was very shallow, occurring less than 1 mile below the Earth’s surface.

tsunami warning has been issued along the West Coast from central California to central Oregon, including the San Francisco Bay area, according to the National Tsunami Warning Center.

“Evacuate inland or to higher ground above and beyond designated tsunami hazard zones or move to an upper floor of a multi-story building depending on your situation,” the center said in a bulletin. “If you feel a strong earthquake or extended ground rolling take immediate protective actions such as moving inland and/or uphill preferably by foot.”

There have already been at least nine aftershocks of at least magnitude 3.0 or higher. More Here
