Fox News is reporting that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, leader of Canada’s Liberal Party, is expected to announce his resignation, perhaps as early as today (1/6/2025) but no later than Wednesday – prior to a national caucus meeting.
The news comes as Trudeau’s popularity continues to dwindle in Canada, which has a national election planned for October 20, 2025. Canada continues to suffer from a housing crisis, a declining per-capita GDP and high inflation, among other issues.
Trudeau, who became prime minister in 2015, faced a no confidence vote in parliament in September 2024; however, the vote failed and the Conservative Party was unable to remove him from office.

My brothers and sisters, Prime Minister Trudeau has notoriously been the subject of angst because of his unrepentant insistence on liberal policies, including extreme gun control measures, heavy-handed COVID-19 responses, and an apparent unwillingness to take actions to prevent economic hardships likely forthcoming in the event U.S. President-elect Donald J. Trump follows through with promised economic trade tariffs.
In an article published on December 12, 2024, Joe Oliver with the Financial Post stated in reference to, and comparison between, President-elect Trump and Prime Minister Trudeau, that:
“[t]he two could not be more different — an alpha male and a beta-male feminist with starkly opposing ideologies and world views: nationalism over globalism; common sense and traditional values versus wokeism and identity politics; deep-seated belief in free enterprise and mistrust of the deep state in contrast to faith in big government and bureaucracy; [and] rejection of “fake news” versus financial support for legacy media.”

It is far too easy for a world leader, because of the inherent power wielded in such positions, to begin to ‘believe his or her own news.’ When the wisdom of the world, arrogance and self-adulation become the basis for leading a nation, trouble is around the corner.
Let’s pray for Prime Minister Trudeau (and all world leaders) that godly wisdom would prevail in their policy making, with leadership that is tempered with genuine kindness and concern for the people being served. A wise leader advocates for what is best for those he or she serves, not personal and political agendas which divide and stand in contrast to Biblical truth.
The Bible reminds us that true freedom and wisdom come from the Lord, and that pride leads to destruction (or failure):
2 Corinthians 3:17 (Amplified Bible)
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty [emancipation from bondage, true freedom].”
Proverbs 2:6-8 (NLT)
“For the Lord grants wisdom! From [H]is mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to [H]im.”
Ecclesiastes 9:16-18 (NKJV)
“Then I said: ‘[w]isdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, [a]nd his words are not heard. Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard [r]ather than the shout of a ruler of fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war; [b]ut one sinner destroys much good.’”
1 Corinthians 3:19 (NKJV)
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness…’”.
Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV)
“Pride goes before destruction, [a]nd a haughty spirit before a fall.”
