JERUSALEM, ISRAEL — Without a doubt, 2024 will go down in history as one of the darkest, most dangerous, and yet craziest and most transformative years in the history of the modern Middle East.

 

It was certainly the most challenging and exhausting year I’ve ever had to cover as a journalist.

To make sense of it all – and to not only look back at the biggest events and lessons of 2024 but to consider how all we’ve seen and heard and reported on may shape events in 2025 – I asked two friends and veteran journalists to spend an hour on Zoom with me.

Chris Mitchell is the Middle East bureau chief for the Christian Broadcasting Network.

He’s lived in Jerusalem and covered Israel and the region for nearly a quarter of a century.

Daniel Cohen – a Jewish believer and an Israeli citizen – is an Emmy award-winning journalist from Southern California who served for four years as the Jerusalem correspondent for Newsmax.
