Larry Barker Investigation Discloses ‘Hidden’ Marijuana Products In New Mexico Convenience Stores

KRQE News 13 purchased a hemp-labeled, pre-rolled cigarette called Gorilla Glu at Big Moe’s Market on Albuquerque’s Westside. Laboratory testing showed that it was not hemp, but 'bootleg' marijuana containing banned pesticides. After reviewing the laboratory's analyses, the New Mexico Environment Department's ("NMED") Cannabis and Hemp Bureau Chief, Johnathan Gerhardt, said that faux hemp products are not safe, but the NMED is powerless to do anything about it because such products are manufactured outside of New Mexico, and the New Mexico Hemp Manufacturing Act does not regulate products manufactured in other states.

KRQE News 13 (Albuquerque, NM) recently reported on a Larry Barker investigation revealing that to buy marijuana in New Mexico today, you don’t have to go to a licensed dispensary.  You can go to any number of gas stations or convenience stores and you’ll find racks of candy, chips, cokes and cannabis.  This is because products labeled and sold as hemp products (which do not make a person ‘high’ and are not regulated as strictly as marijuana) were found to contain marijuana.

KRQE News 13 purchased a pre-rolled, hemp cigarette called “Permanent Marker” at a Quick Track convenience store on Wyoming Boulevard NE.  It was sent to Rio Grande Analytics for laboratory testing.  Laboratory Director Barry Dungan reported that the product was not properly labeled, as it contained 25% THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), even though the product was labeled as containing hemp.

My brothers and sisters, the issue of mislabeling to covertly sell marijuana to unsuspecting (or perhaps, ‘suspecting’) persons is certainly not an accident.  Shame on those who would attempt to avoid the costs of selling marijuana products in accordance with existing regulatory requirements and in the process, almost certainly cause its products to be sold to minors, including school children.

As a reminder, with New Mexico making the incredibly ill-advised decision to embrace all things marijuana, including loosely-restricted ‘medical’ distribution and freewheeling recreational use, it is no surprise that the unscrupulous will be attracted to our state.

This writer has reported on this topic many times and it should be remembered, as previously addressed HERE, that marijuana is an illegal drug under federal law because it remains a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act (“CSA”), 21 USC 812(b)(1)-(5), Schedules of Controlled Substances.

According to the CSA, Schedule I drugs or substances:  1) have a high potential for abuse; 2) have no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States; and 3) lack accepted safety for use of the drug or substance under medical supervision.  The CSA’s list of Schedule I-V substances may be reviewed HERE – which continues to list Tetrahydrocannabinols as a Schedule I drug.

As followers of Jesus Christ, let’s never forget that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit lives within us!  Why would we want to knowingly take a harmful drug that clouds our minds, inhibits good judgement, and is an affront to the Holy Spirit?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV)
Your Body Is the Temple of the Holy Spirit
“…[d]o you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
