President Trump already does not allow the AP into his news conferences, and insults a lot of the media. Whatever happened to agreeing to disagree? Is the President going to shut down any media that does not favor him? That is not right. Freedom of the Press is vital. Freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democratic societies, and means the right to publish and disseminate information, thoughts and opinions without government censorship or restraint. It protects the ability of news organizations and individuals to report on events and to hold power accountable.
I do not know where all this is going to land, but it is not going to be good. I started out in news in 1978 at the Minnesota State Radio News Network. We were journalists. We still are here at FGGAM. We were non-partisan. The other side of this issue is that true journalism is lacking in America. Sad place to be. We are a sick country. I have never seen my country so sick.

I completely agree that freedom of the press is a cornerstone of the U.S. Republic and must be protected and valued! Where my view may conflict with some is that government, at any level, should never fund, in whole or in part, any press or journalism operation outside of the military or that which solely serves the employees of an internal governmental agency or department. Such funding of the public mainstream press is an inherent conflict of interest, as the least likely to be objective and to accurately hold power accountable are those receiving funding from those already in power! I feel the same way about PBS and even city, regional or state symphony orchestras and public artwork, etc. In a capitalistic, free-enterprise economy, things that retain sufficient value to the public will have sufficient funding by the public. There is no need for government to arbitrarily step in with taxpayer funds to decide what art or what news is worth funding!
