Sharon and I returned from Arizona late yesterday. We were blessed to serve at the memorial services over two days for our dear sister in Christ, Sonja Haldeman. Sonja and I grew up together in Windom, Minnesota. We graduated together in 1974 and have remained dear friends. I am very tired and saddened as I write this at 4:17 AM this Monday morning.
Pictured here is Sonja’s husband Steve grieving the passing of the love of his life. To the left is Sonja’s wonderful brother, Wes Sweigard. Sharon took this very touching picture, which speaks of love and grief.
This memorial service was held at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. I called Steve when we got home yesterday, as it would be his first night in the house with no one. Can you imagine?
I thank God for keeping me connected with my friends from years and years ago. Sonja was an angel here on earth, and now is healed and living in heaven forever. We will miss her so much here on earth. Please keep Steve and the family in your prayers during this time of grieving. Please love others more than you did yesterday, let the love of Jesus flow from your heart and soul in memory of Sonja.
As Sonja passed into heaven, Steve was playing the song ‘Believe’ by Brooks & Dunn:
