“Be All You Can Be,” A well known motto describing the attitude of today’s warrior. What happens, however, when you give it all and are all you can be for our Country and get hurt? Does our Veterans Affair department give our soldiers the same dedication? More often than not, this question is answered with a resounding “NO!” Too many veterans languish in the tide of backlog in the VA system. This means that many veterans must wait for years and years before they have a prayer of getting the benefits they are entitled to under the law. While their nation asked much of them and asked them in a matter of moments, the same diligence expected of them is not expected of the VA system. A simple fix to the backlog of cases is for Congress to enact time limits on veterans disability claims. Time limits would ensure that cases are hurried along in a timely fashion. No longer should veterans be treated as second class citizens. I can attest to the fact that this sort of delay would never fly if these cases were in the civilian court system, but somehow the excuses are sufficient for the VA system. Our veterans deserve better. Our veterans deserve justice!
