Sirens wailed in several communities in southern Israel Thursday evening as a rocket was launched from the Gaza Strip. However, IDF sources said the rocket fell inside Gaza. The rocket came at roughly the same time as the IDF Magistrate’s office reported late Thursday night that, following an investigation into an incident during last summer’s Operation Protective Edge in which four Palestinian children were killed on the beach near Gaza City, no criminal charges will be filed against the soldiers involved. Analysts were quick to assess that the announcement would have grave implications for Israel going forward, as the UN Human Rights Council and the Palestinian Authority, as well as several NGOs around the world, are preparing to issue reports about Protective Edge which are expected to contain accusations that Israeli troops committed various atrocities and war crimes.
