FROM ICEJ NEWS:
Saudi Arabia throwing vast sums at various problems
Saudi Arabia announced a series of deals with French companies Wednesday totaling over $12 billion (€10.7 billion) with big-ticket items including two nuclear reactors and a squadron multipurpose military helicopters and 30 naval patrol vessels. The purchases are the latest in a string of massive deals with Western defense companies for weapons to counter the perceived threat from Iran. In related news, a new trove of WikiLeaks documents recently released includes evidence that Saudi intelligence agencies have spent large sums on various media outlets throughout the Moslem world in order to influence news coverage of events in the Middle East and editorial policies regarding Islam and other topics.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Air Force continues its bombardment of the Iranian-backed Houthi rebel movement in neighboring Yemen, where the UN reported on Wednesday nearly 31 million people are in danger from disease and famine.
