Obama Abandons Another Ally
There is a shocking report in the British media that the Obama Administration is refusing to allow our Arab allies to supply heavy weapons to the Kurds fighting the Islamic State in northern Iraq. This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Unlike the Iraqi military, the Kurds are a competent fighting force. But the report notes that they are fighting ISIS, which has captured a lot of modern U.S. military equipment, with old Soviet-era weaponry. They need help.
President Obama insists he does not want to put boots on the ground in Iraq. Fine. But at least give those willing to fight these barbarians the weapons they need to win!
Not surprisingly, our Arab allies are furious. One senior Arab official told The Telegraph:
“If the Americans and the West are not prepared to do anything serious about defeating ISIL, then we will have to find new ways of dealing with the threat. With ISIL making ground all the time we simply cannot afford to wait for Washington to wake up to the enormity of the threat we face.”
By refusing to arm the Kurds with heavy weapons, Obama is increasing the odds that ISIS will prevail, thereby increasing the odds that a future American president may have no choice but to commit massive numbers of soldiers in order to prevent the entire region from falling to these butchers.
And while Obama refuses to aggressively fight ISIS, the enemy is growing stronger. Egypt is now fighting a fierce battle with ISIS militants in the Sinai Peninsula — about 40 miles from the Israeli border. Responding to yesterday’s attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said:
“ISIS is not just opposite the Golan Heights. At the moment it is also in Egypt, opposite Rafah, facing our borders, and we are joined with Egypt and with many other countries in the Middle East and the world in the struggle against the extremist Islamic terrorism that is guided by two elements — Iran and the Shiite extremists, and ISIS and the Sunni extremists — as well as other factions such as Hamas.”
By the way, ISIS warned Christians in Jerusalem this week to leave the holy city or die. Meanwhile here in America, we are facing perhaps our highest terrorist threat level ever from ISIS sympathizers eager to attack July 4th celebrations.
No matter where they are — Jerusalem or America — Christians are in danger of being murdered by radical Islamists right now, and it just happens to be Ramadan, the holiest time of the Islamic calendar.
I’m sure that is just a coincidence. The Islamic State and its radical followers have nothing to do with Islam — at least that is what our political and cultural elites tell us.
Ready For Polygamy?
Well, that didn’t take long. Emboldened by the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage, three polygamists walked into a courthouse in Billings, Montana, yesterday and demanded a marriage license. They should have been told no and shown the door.
But the poor county clerk, caught in the crosshairs of the culture war, said she would consult with the county attorney and get back to them.
I can just imagine the conversations across the country about this news over the weekend. . .
“Polygamy has not been recognized in Western Civilization for centuries.” But the left would say, “Neither has same-sex marriage.”
“Marriage in America has always been one man and one woman.” Whoops, that was just thrown out by the Supreme Court.
“Isn’t marriage about the best environment for raising children?” It should be. But some on the left might argue that two moms or two dads are better than one.
Abraham Lincoln said that the two great evils facing America were slavery and polygamy. Can I really quote Lincoln in today’s culture when we barely teach our own history?
Pro-family conservatives have warned for years about the “slippery slope” that the radical left is taking us down. We warned that the normalization of homosexuality would lead to men marrying men and to attacks on religious liberty. We were mocked. We were right.
We warned same-sex marriage would lead to polygamy. We were ridiculed. We were right.
Unfortunately, given all of our modern “understanding” and the resulting cultural chaos, the polygamist family in Montana actually does expect to prevail.
As Chief Justice John Roberts noted in his dissenting opinion on same-sex marriage, “It is striking how much of the majority’s reasoning would apply with equal force to the claim of a fundamental right to plural marriage.”
Undoubtedly, Justice Kennedy won’t have to look too hard to find yet another new right in the Constitution that isn’t there.
