Romans 6:9-14 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise, you also reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
There was a lady that had a word from the Lord for her pastor. She went to him and told him that the Father loves him and is not mad at him. Her pastor said, “Yeah, but you don’t know what I’ve done. Ask Him to tell you what I did.” The lady went home and asked the Lord, but said nothing to the pastor. This went on for a few weeks. Finally, in exasperation, the pastor confronted the lady. “Well, did you ask Him what I did?” She said, “Yes, I did.” The pastor continued, “Well, what did He say?” She looked him in the eyes and said, “He said He doesn’t remember.”
Psalm 103:11-12 For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Isaiah 38:17 Indeed it was for my own peace that I had great bitterness; But You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption, For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.
Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.
If the Lord forgets our sins, why don’t we? Why do we keep beating ourselves up for things we have done?
We have all made mistakes. To be sin conscious is to think on those mistakes, or to tell others about their mistakes. What do you think it is doing to you? Is it making you effectual? It would drive me into a deep depression if I thought on all the things I have done wrong, so I don’t think on them unless I need to for the purpose of helping someone else.
I choose instead to fix my eyes on Jesus and believe what He says, “I don’t remember.”
Hebrews 7:23-28 and 10:5-18 explain that Jesus offered Himself up once for all. All our sins have been forgiven: past, present and future. Does that give us license to sin? No, of course not! When you draw close to Him and the more you get to know Him, the less you will even want to sin.
Look at the picture of the meerkat. That’s what being sin conscious will do to you. It will render you numb and powerless because you can’t be effectual when your focus is on something other than Him.
Forgive yourself and others, then move on. Draw near to Him and let Him speak into your heart. Believe what He says is true. Hear what the Father says to you:
